Laptop to Mobile – The Way that We go through. A few years ago, laptops were the devices heavy, with some dimension but that they could be transported. The portable phones were the size of folders (of the executive), were used to receive and make calls and, when too much, for small text messages.
Today, mobile devices are more advanced to ensure a diversity of features, from editing, management and archiving of files, whether for word processing, spreadsheet usage, conducting presentations, communication via e-mail, use services of messenger, browsing on the Internet and, among others, for the handling of applications media. The use of these features, relate to three main areas: mobile computing, mobile data and mobile access to the Internet.
In addition there is a convergence of features, no longer any need to carry a number of components such as the mobile phone or other communication device, a laptop computer, a camera (web), possibly a media player and storage devices portable data, such as CDs, external hard disks, and others. The mobile computers are the result of the convergence of these components, in devices which are capable of ensuring (at different levels) a range of features.
At the same time, the high penetration and rapid diffusion of mobile phones has opened windows of opportunity for innovation, which seems to have a high potential when targeted for the services. Although still with low penetration in Portugal and in the world, the provision of banking services through the mobile terminals (m-banking and m-payments) seems promising. In a more general way, we can talk about e-commerce through cellular phones or other mobile devices: m-commerce.
A good example are the services of m-payments, where many vaticinam the convergence between the credit/debit cards and mobile phones. Companies such as VISA and Nokia have developed efforts in this direction; in Portugal the SIBS proposes, in partnership with the mobile carriers, the use of the system Atm via the mobile phone, being possible the payment of utility bills, consultation of balances, among other features.
The barriers to effective use (demand) more comprehensive and frequent remote service via mobile devices, seem to have a diversity of origins. Among the barriers most mentioned, there are aspects related with the tradition and the process, the value and the risk.
In the perspective of supply, it is fundamentally to ensure the effective technical suitability and content for mobile terminals.
